October at Lunaria Gallery

Lunaria Gallery presents an exhibit of current work by Kara Pilcher and Deborah Unger;  both of whom execute their work with a sensitive and detailed eye. Pilcher's intricately designed watercolors will be featured with Unger’s sculptures that range from whimsical to deeply serious.  In common, both artists depict people engaged in various pursuits and dramas.  In the loft,  “Art Through the Generations” features a group exhibition of artworks by artists that are related to and influenced by each other.  Both shows will be on display Oct. 2- Oct. 29, 2018  during regular business hours and at the First Friday artists' reception Oct. 5 from 7-9 pm.

Kara Pilcher’s paintings are inspired by family and friends. With watercolor and other aqueous media, Kara strives to capture the energy and spirit people bring to activities.  Pilcher has experience in dance and printmaking, traces of which can be seen throughout her body of 2D work.  In  1972 she graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a major in Literature and Spanish and in 1973 earned a Masters in the Art of Teaching. Her work can be seen at the Northwest Health Foundation and Emanuel Children’s Hospital in Portland, as well as other venues.

Deborah Unger creates small-scale figurative sculptures in carved wood and mixed media.  Her work employs metaphor and symbolism to portray relationships and internal conflicts.  Her new exhibit explores the darker side of ones sense of self. Deborah has a background in graphic design, sign making, silk screening, and printmaking.  Unger received her BFA at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Printmaking.  Her exposure to various mediums lead to sculpting with carved wood and her current method of creating.  www.deborahungerart.com

 Art Through the Generations  showcases local artists who have close family members also exhibiting.  The group show includes a diverse mixture of mediums and reveals similarities and differences between related artists.
