Kiwanis Pet Parade scheduled May 16: Grand Marshal Revealed
The Kiwanis Club of Silverton has scheduled the annual pet parade 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16 on Main street and First street in downtown Silverton.
The Silverton High School Foxes "State Champion" boys’ basketball team has been named Grand Marshal of the parade. The Silverton High School Foxes won their first State Championship in 105 years on March 13, 2015 at Gill Coliseum.
Coach Steve Roth said the team is excited to be named Grand Marshal. "The boys will be bringing their pets and dressing them up in uniforms," Roth said.
The Team will be escorted along the parade route by the SHS Foxes mascot along with the Foxes marching band.
The Pet Parade is one of the Silverton Kiwanis’ numerous service projects that benefits the community.
The parade has been a community tradition since 1932 attracting thousands of children with pets of all varieties – from snails to llamas – in wagons, on bicycles, with parents and neighbors, accompanied by representatives from local bands, schools and other community groups
There is no registration or fee to participate in the parade. The public – especially children and pets – is invited to view the parade.
Kiwanis announced parade sponsors this year include Valley Credit Union; Silver Creek Animal Clinic; Republic Services; and Edward Jones.
