Odd Bodkins take over Lunaria Gallery in Silverton Odd Bodkins, a new show by Carol Murphy and Chelsea Goin, is the August feature at Lunaria Gallery, 113 N. Water Street in Silverton. An artist reception for the show, with refreshments, will be held on Silverton First Friday, August 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. Odd Bodkins is a parade of quizzical characters by artist Carol Murphy, and an array of vibrant inspired jewelry creations by designer Chelsea Goin. In a surprise departure from her current body of work, Murphy bases her new designs on extremely loose, quick-draw sketches. With one pencil in each hand, she draws each face in two minutes, with two hands simultaneously. Characters emerge, and with them their stories as Murphy takes the sketches and develops them with vivid color and additions that allow them to take on a life of their own. Some Odd Bodkins are a little tongue-in-cheek, some seem ridiculous, and some are adorned with art pieces paired with the characters by jewelry designer Chelsea Goin. "It was fun to take a detour from one style of work, and to just play with something different," said Murphy about her new Odd Bodkins creations. Chelsea Goin took up the challenge to pair the Odd Bodkins characters with jewelry that reflects their bold and spontaneous origins. She loves to design jewelry collections with inspiration from many cultures and times in history, from Byzantine architecture to European royal jewels, to ancient middle eastern desert clans. "I am particularly drawn by faceted stones," Chelsea said. "I enjoy the mixture of texture, shine and color." Odd Bodkins will show through the month of August.
