Name: "It's Iconic" at Lunaria Gallery
Date: September 20, 2017
Time: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM PDT
Event Description:

Lunaria Gallery presents "It’s Iconic," an exhibit of paintings by Ann Altman and sculpture by Deborah Unger. Both shows will be on display September 1-30 during regular business hours and at the First Friday artists' reception September 1 from 7-9 pm.

In keeping with this theme, both artists have used figures as icons or symbols of an attribute of life in a way that refers to art/world history while being modern and forward-looking.

Inspired by the shape of ironing boards, resonant of both domesticity and Gothic architecture, Ann Altman's paintings represent the figure as icon in a broad sense. She has collected antique wooden ironing boards of all different shapes and sizes to use as canvases for this series. Each piece is unique and has a personality all its own.

Deborah Unger has created small-scale figurative sculptures in carved wood and mixed media. These figures often exist within structures or other environments, which create context.

Also on display through September in the the gallery’s loft, “Artmarks: Nature’s Own,” featuring nature paintings by seven artists.
