December 7 - A new holiday tradition for the town that still believes. Please join us in spreading joy and light during the first annual Children's Lantern Parade on the First Friday in December before the Christmas Tree Lighting. Cookies, cocoa, crafts, carols and of course Father Christmas. Everyone is welcome! Decorate a lantern at our Lantern Workshop or bring your own.
Schedule:
3:00 pm-6:00 pm Lantern Workshop under the park pavilion. Lanterns are available for purchase for $5, all proceed are donated to Silverton Area Warming Shelter. Children may then personalize and decorate their lantern. Father Christmas will be on site to share free cookies and cocoa and festive Christmas music will fill the hall.
6:00 pm Procession Line Up. Children and parents will gather at the pavilion to hear a special message from the Christmas Angel and start our Christmas caroling. Both Father Christmas and the angel will lead the procession across the bridge and through the park near the library, down the sidewalk of Water St. and finally cross the covered bridge to join the town in our beloved Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Members of Silverton's Children's Choir will join us and take the stage before Santa makes his big appearance to light the town tree.
*All lanterns will have battery operated light sources. Parents if you bring your own, please no flames.
